UK politics, junk is getting in the way…

We need a greater sense of urgency re climate change ie Arctic ice loss, diatom loss (eqiv CO2>O conversion for all terrestial green things).

So much junk is getting in the way, the Tories are intransigent with the state of the NHS, latest Tory sleazeball Nadhim Zahawi somehow carelessly overlooked £23 million quid etc etc and the stupidity of HS2 in this digital age beggars belief, its not anything to do with transporting goods, merely bums on seats.

Both COP extraveganzas last year will amount to little if anything and the IPCC are so backward and emasculated, quite irrelevant to latest scientific thinking. World ice expert Prof Peter Wadhams mostly side-lined/ forgotten.

There are so many realworld momentous changes occurring, interconnected features and feedback loops like a vast chemistry experiment now set into dire motion and a quite unfavourable realignment, a realignment that does not favour homo saps nor most living things of any sort, if diatoms are severely compromised which is the foundation of the marine food chain and CANNOT be circumvented as to their essential contribution then the cards on the table indicate enjoy your life as you can, live a good life but imho 2026 is the line in the sand.

Its hard to know where to start …

  • Jet stream altering, expect crazy weather patterns and food prodn greatly altered. You can forget burgers.
  • Diatoms are on the decline, a total loss wld be equiv to all terrestial plants and trees for CO2>O conversion. Google the irony of that … origin of 70% of all world oil reserves etc.
  • Arctic ice loss, to some extent remains but thickness disappearing fast. One day soon it will all ‘flash melt’ and be gone.
  • Ice-free Arctic by summer 2023 … looks likely. Place your bets!
  • El Nino slow to start from the quieter La Nina, looks set to peak with sunspot max 2026… oh dear!
  • Methane is trickling slowly, as yet quite docile though at historically max levels, we have yet to receive the predicted large releases, as a short term catastrophe much higher effect than many will admit say min x200 of CO2 and one could guess a short term effect x1,000 that of CO2. IPCC is in all respects ‘dumb’ on this; shame upon them.
  • With inc CO2 or methane all green growing things go into reverse and will not be able to help us when we need it.
  • Reduction of aerosol masking effect ie ‘going green’ does nothing but inc temperature. The irony of it! Maybe that is why chemtrail is sprayed, but as its mainly nano-particle aluminium (near gaseous in its diffusion) it is non-healthy and imho greatly exacerbates wild fires.
  • To my mind a good source of all that is happening, could happen is http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/

Where are we with climate change?

I’ve lain fallow on this for a few weeks following the damp squib of a wasted COP26 Glasgow, to let the dust settle so to speak, to reflect. The IPCC should hang their heads in shame.

The four years of a trump vested interest and an ‘in reverse’ shambles of what could only laughingly be called an ‘administration’ (note I deny him upper case) has not helped this planet or its peoples in any way whatsoever unless of course you are already an exceedingly rich US billionaire; lets face it millions are small change these days….

But trump is not a billionaire, no matter how crooked his schemes and evasions it has still left him hanging on propped up by debt from lenders of near last resort.

I worry about the Yemen, the inexcusable shambles of a deliberately callous Afghanistan withdrawl etc etc

In all this blog of say six hundred posts I reckon my sources are of good quality, will stand to scrutiny and illuminate and educate. Brave people, particularly in the USA, they face demotion or dismissal for speaking like this.

Heres two for climate change …

Note in the above from Dr Guy Macpherson his concern at the big hit from ozone depletion at 02:45 from rising sea level and hence the loss and destruction of nuclear generation (ie meltdown) and hence near instant ozone loss rendering the ‘out of doors’ uninhabitable. Its a chilling quote “The living will envy the dead” at 03:28. My own hobby horse is diatoms and the oceanic plankton that scrub half of the worlds carbon for us for free, all are near or are actually microscopic; trees and land based CO2 conversion will fail us I’m sure and unfortunately the plankton too. We’ve played with a world size chemistry set and it all appears inevitable. I found the link for the above on …. https://www.facebook.com/groups/arcticnews/

Important, please see….. http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/p/about.html

Here below is disturbing footage, note the blackened ice, note how beavers are colonising further north and flood the land / permafrost with their dams, the catastrophic opening of Arctic ocean seaways with accompanying noise pollution destroying marine mammal habitat and their ability to communicate and organise.

Note the academic / scientific level of the people that made this film in the credits at the end; I obtained the embed from ….. https://theconversation.com/2021-arctic-report-card-reveals-a-human-story-of-cascading-disruptions-extreme-events-and-global-connections-172136

Climate change, ice loss, the future.

Its not very well put actually, Prof Peter Wadhams does okay in his own style but the other two particularly Mark seem not too good with words, I’d have expected greater eloquence, must be hell to get a lecture from them, or maybe I should have been a lecturer myself.

Good to hear criticism of the IPCC, they have a powerful voice and grip on humankinds response to this climate catastrophe and impending mass extinction event.

It rambles and rumbles along, but I cannot share the enthusiasm at the loss of Stuart Scott the previous frontman for this, I always thought he was too much the lightweight, not much presence, too light a touch on the subject to get anyone to notice, too quiet a speaker. Maybe we need more of the Brian Blessed to get these discussions noticed!

Never mind, Mr Grumpy here, no harm intended, it starts very elementary and luckily gets better, salient points are mankinds inability with non-linear change and a hypothetical question at 28:00 that if we fast tracked solar generation into a five year period as how this would help or solve the matter of human extinction. Answer is ‘not really’ … all the changes are now ‘locked in’ to the unstoppable dynamic of climate change and extinction. Not much was made of the methane time bomb but when Prof Wadhams is quizzed into admitting five years as a possible diary marker for a cataclysmic event in my opinion I agree.

A valuable link …

… re climate change, arctic ice loss and ice thinning.

Arctic sea ice’s dramatic transformation revealed through 42 years of satellite data – ABC News

You have to realise thinning can occur from underside as well as from the top. The former I’m guessing will be the downfall of the Antarctic ice shelves as they are levered away from the parent body, its a different set-up down south so to speak.

The action is in the Arctic as we read in the above, the highest and lowest extremes in Siberia at one same location has now set new records and sat imagery shows the depletion and the near non-existance of multi-year ice. You can add my tears to the ever increasing sea level.

Arctic News (arctic-news.blogspot.com) is also a valuable read. Locations such as the shallow Laptev Sea are forever burnt into my mind. I’ve a £1k wager with friend Gary who is a little sceptical of the severity of my forecast that if we have not reached 3deg C or above by end of 2026 then I will hand him £1k cash, no quibble. I don’t want it to be so but we must all realise the severity of what is happening with multiple feedback loops, all self and mutually reinforcing to greater and higher levels, its a lethal chemistry set we should never have set in motion, as if all the ingredients are present and its one big joke to see how we exploit, extract and set in motion the inevitable. If only we could have lived as in a Biblical simplicity.

There are so many factors and components and values feeding into the active equation that is planetary science, remember our space on this spinning ball of eight inches diameter scales at one thousandth of an inch ie 0.001in equivilant to a cigarette paper licked and placed on a childs eight inch toy ball.

There is nothing we do re carbon emission that will take any effect inside of a decade, the latest scares and truths in fact are many, loss of the aerosol masking effect, arctic methane, loss of high altitude cloud cover, and my own pet hobby horse of (near never reported) of the loss of the oceanic plankton particularly diatoms, quite ironic as it is ancient diatoms that form the basis for 70% of the worlds oil and gas supplies.

Arch clown, otherwise now realised to be a ‘stand-up president’ as in comedian namely trump should be tried at The Hague for his four year climate denial, this is a crime against humanity, four valuable years lost.

What would help is a universal one child policy, a move from the American burger culture, to live close to work and abandon your car in whatever form it takes petrol or electric, none of them are particularly green. Everything starts and rests with the individual, I deliberately have hand washed my laundry for the last couple of years, its no problem to me as luckily I have a clean job, here in north east England works fine, a quick wring and the washing line does the rest, none of the endless tumbling and spinning of the electrical machine.

arctic methane.

Arctic methane is the biggie, on a ten year timescale x120 more potent then CO2 … this we know already from many sources online, I mean blogs and material from sensible people not alarmist junk of which the latter I tend to avoid.

Explaining to a new friend yesterday its not just the two and three deg C rise by at my guess 2026 (I’ve a £1k wager on this for 3C+ by end 2026) that will in itself hurt us ie its just a hotter day to endure … BUT its the effect on world interconnected natural systems with locked in feedbacks and associated drives that respond at such fine-scale limits that will alter this biosphere to become un-livable, this literally one thou inch thick biosphere on an eight inch diameter childs football.  This is thinner than any layer of modern varnish, more like the old fashioned shellac.  Already the jet stream has split into two loops and is streaming hot moist air over the Arctic. My guess is that the end of the greenland ice sheet I quote “By 2100” as bandied in the general press is woefully overestimated; the nature of ice melt is a law unto itself.

Note that of recent years no-one is bandying the expression that ‘nature is resilient’ anymore …

8 inch dia = 8k miles dia of planet Earth

therefore .001 in (one thou inch) = 1 mile approx.

cigarette paper = 0.001 in (copier paper is 0.004 in)

And still diesel drivers idle their engines all day, at work, at supermarkets whilst waiting, during lunchbreaks etc etc.

So much if not all of our CO2 to O conversion shuts down at increased CO2 levels, it does not / can not ‘rise to the occasion’, ie green plants and forests, diatoms, algae.  Likewise my particular ‘hobby horse’ and fascination with diatoms is a critical factor, the irony of using ancient deposits of oil and gas mainly derived from diatoms has led to their own and our demise, see also the loss of the symbiotic relationship of diatoms to bryozoans ie coral reef.  No-one has ever seen with the naked eye a diatom yet nearly all of our petrol and oil carbon lifestyle is based upon them.

The sadness of Polar Bears …

Harrowing and a topic I have somehow declined to read about to any extent. But heres a digestible account and worthwhile to realise how so screwed up we really are and this is merely the beginning …

Arctic warming …

Tootling around we find this online resourece (garnered from arctic21) … http://library.open.oregonstate.edu/climatechange/front-matter/preface/

The source for the above  …. https://twitter.com/arctic21?lang=en

We read now that theres lots of mercury in the thawing permafrost. Sort of academic anyway considering the effects of the methane on the interconnected feedback loops of this planet.

Luckily Monsanto can save us (I’m also good at sarcasm) as I’ve read their patented GM crops/ products also hold patents for resistance to unbonded aluminium. The latter as at present released in climate change chemtrails is hindering and will eventually I assume destroy any viable organic production of green grown food; likewise its the enemy of bees and insects, airborne and aquatic. Yesterday the 24th March 2018 we had chemtrails and its a high pressure day here in the UK and so with its bright blue sky I expect to see the usual disruption from non-fading haze from the dreaded weather modification.

The amount and speed of methane release and its 20-120 potency of CO2 is the big problem (or one of many) heres some ‘latest data’ … http://arctic-news.blogspot.co.uk/

The web is a minefield, certainly valuable being an understatement but also annoying when self-regarding fools (I hope not me!) insist on rolling out the same old “It won’t happen” crap  …. fact is it is happening, even trump in his convoluted way admits to it  ie the wall to stop mass migration, tax handbacks to the rich, ramping the military, disowning the poor or the ordinary, ditto people of colour and refugees. now that its plus 30c in parts of the Arctic then this is ‘snowballing’ no pun intended far quicker than many Scientists can pontificate upon the matter.

Below, slow start but useful visuals and explanation….

page 4 – degrees of warming.

Two degrees in all reality in my opinion will soon appear as wishful thinking. The Arctic is already at 10-12 deg C warmer and the Antarctic is also melting faster than scientists thought possible, with massive as yet invisible undercutting by warming sea water into the ice massif itself.  But its not ‘how we feel’ as humans in a warmer environment it is the effect upon individual and cascading and interconnected feedback loops and weather systems and hard to believe they could be so sensitive! Each exacerbates the other. Already the jet stream is looping over and crossing the Arctic, also looping onto and below the Equator, this should not be happening! This all brings about a much changed situation and all for the worst, none of hundreds of points of consequence is a move for the better. We have lost sea ice, therefore turbulence increases, subsea permafrost releases increased methane and there are vast deposits that at the moment are relatively stationary of this most unwelcome visitor at 20-100 fold the potency of CO2 depending upon timescale.

It is shameful and sad that a distorted White House is heeding so easily the lobbying of the soon to be extinct coal and oil industries ie companies wanting to extract whatever profits remain to be made and contrary to the will and desire of the worlds population. The American Environmental Protection Agency, the EPA, with Scott Pruitt has been gutted and castrated, scientists dismissed or placed in menial or irrelevant job positions and no free exchange of information; the denial of the facts, of data. Even the term ‘climate change’ is banned. This is chaos and evil of the order of magnitude that would serve as storyline for a Marvel  comic; theres no limit to where trump will  get his claws into and wreck all good sense.

Last year ie 2017 dipped below the upwardly curving mean, so in all probability 2018 will see many horrible weather events.

All this will happen much quicker than most mainstream predictions want to forecast as ‘likely’. For instance what the IPCC forecasted as total loss of summer Arctic sea ice as 2080 is already here.

Here experts discuss the need and likelihood of getting down to a 2deg C limit  …. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOfWROvWestkWbBhZTk147w

James Lovelocks book ‘Gaia’ as mentioned in I think page two here on my climate-change-briefing.com blog is a most valuable primer for the layman. If you can read it and understand and memorise it then you will be able to take part in many and most discussions re climate change. He discovered the gas DMS the product of oceanic plankton and which influences planetary cloud formation; a man of breadth as well as depth. His biography is a most fascinating read, originally self taught, naturally talented; NASA have utilised him as an independant scientist. Here below he tells us that with the loss of Arctic sea ice the absorption rate will escalate and heat the worlds oceans as much or more than all or any CO2 emissions. Ice in a sense was our ally, it reflected sunlight.

climate-change-briefing.com page 1

It was only in November 2017  it struck me that climate change had raced ahead, I was out of touch and I needed to get up to speed.

To my mind climate change is now the ‘only game in town’, too vital and important for any of the other 2k plus books here to interest me very much.

These pages will be an easy to read and easily explored gateway to the terrible problems that are the climate change catastrophe that is unfolding in the second decade of the twenty first century.

So many youtubes and web posts that I explore are subject specific ie loss of arctic ice, weather modification, loss of Pacific coral, jet stream upheaval, arctic methane etc etc … so my quest here is to throw lots around and provide quick easily understood information. A big criticism I have is that so many youtubes can be so slow and ponderous, particularly those that are delivered ‘to an audience’ TED style….. I don’t have the ‘effin time to waste listening to some pillock self-agrandising for an hour …. if I cannot ‘get it’ in five or at most seven minutes then please learn brevity !!! Samantha Bee has the right idea – keep it brief. Theres so much to keep up with and yet we are expected to sit through an hour of really quite slow delivery. I hope in time text will accompany youtube so that I can read through quickly rather than hang around viewing it. I’ve spent a lifetime on self employed ‘price-work’ and so am used to getting the point over quickly.

The President of the USA circa early 2018 ie donald j trump astounds and embarrasses me as to his ignorance and wilful refusal to assimilate basic facts, criminal in his negligence, likewise his appointment of Scott Pruitt to head the EPA and general dismantling of all that is good. I have read that scientists are moved to demeaning payroll or admin duties, forbidden to use the term ‘climate change’ or just dismissed from service. Great God, how filthy and belligerent can a so-called Administration become???  They will all ‘meet their Maker’ and be held accountable.

We are in for some troubled times ahead. In my opinion trump knows fine well catastrophic climate change looks set to happen, hence huge tax hand-backs to the already sufficiently rich and gross expansion of the military. The wall is to keep out a people that will be clamouring for survival.

As huge as we think planet Earth seems, the usable layer of breathable air is I read somewhere years ago as if a layer of varnish on a football. We look up to the sky and it seems endless but in fact five miles high and we would not be able to breath. In other words in two hours of brisk walking we would be at the limit of survival. And accordingly, whatever pollutants or modifications we introduce (ie excessive CO2) the effects will be soon felt.

The Pacific Ocean looks to become (if not already) a huge expanse of ‘dead’ water (something seeming I’m finding not too easy to find out about) ie west coast USA is overwhelmed with dead and dying marine life, from mammals down to the tiniest microscopic plankton. Its a strange irony that for one hundred and twenty years we have utilised the oil and gas from microscopic diatoms to fuel our ‘modern’ convenient independant lifestyles and now it seems the diatoms have bitten us on the ass so to speak – withdrawing their oxygenating / CO2 conversion function. Its this loss of diatoms that is in my opinion why corals are devoid of their colourful inhabitants, the self builders of their naturally white coloured homes just no longer exist. ‘Bleaching’ is a term that annoys me, I think inappropriate – it jarrs with me, coral always was white, its just all that the living material has died off. Fukushima and its three ‘somewhere’ reactors I think are responsible for this, some youtubes will explain as ‘acidification’ …I refuse to accept this explanation.

First day here for this climate change blog … its 11th Feb 2018, a work in progress.

Heres a quick starter ……

Realise too that hidden from sight is the undercutting that is occuring below the waterline, there looks set to be some horribly spectacular breakages of very thick elevated ice platform ie the big stuff that will directly contribute to sea level rise from Antarctica.

Here below is Paul Beckwith, he posts frequently, its all data based hardcore fact and I make sure I keep uptodate with him. I made a donation too, three hours of my wage, I hope others too can help contribute.
