Platos Cave.

I had no idea of this until a couple of weeks ago, it is so relevant to this so-called modern world. No teacher ever mentioned this nor any adult I ever encountered. Its from Platos ‘Republic’ a remarkably enjoyable and easy read from 2,300 years ago!

The scene: prisoners are held captive and restrained, all they see are the deliberate flickering images on the cave wall, they devise names for what they see and theories of how and why, never realising its all trickery and has no substance. Familiar?

From Platos ‘Republic’ and it baffles me its taken me a lifetime to stumble upon something so relevant and important. Sitting here right now I know exactly where to reach in a secondhand bookshop I’ve visited a couple of times to buy my own ‘Republic’ … lets hope he doesn’t charge too much!
