quick easy access high quality links and comment re climate change, encroaching fascism, pricking pretension and the obsession of thinking 'we are so modern' …
Get a pin, get a map of the world, place the point of the pin to the location of where your initiative, or project or energy saving or tree planting will occur.
RESULT = merely a pin prick in a whole world of CO2 and impending methane release and the myriad of interconnected self-reinforcing feedback effects.
What frightens me particularly is how puny the COP26 is proving to be, how long dated the deadlines actually are, something as by 2030 or 2050 is laughable …. we won’t be here as a species I fear.
Professor Peter Wadhams a world expert on ice and its demise I quote loosely “In that what is needed is a project many multiple times that of the Manhattan Project and of at least equal speed”
In other words of sufficient scale and speed.
Its a huge ocean out there, six sevenths of the worlds surface, its my opinion many of our solutions will have to be ocean based rather than land.
COP26 is a failure, worse than I feared it would be.
Where are the scientists, where are the new ideas, the latest data, feedback projections?
It has dumbed down even below what a weak and blind IPCC could have stage managed.
I predicted a huge backlash to mans intransigence and eternal hubris and boy o boy theres going to be some very angry people, and in many senses rightly so.
Its my opinion the UK Government is delighted we are entering rapid and gross inflation, it will massage downwards the huge spend from Rishi, much of the money being quite un-needed, £10k lump sums to small businesses that didn’t need it and a furlough scheme that I reckon has been much abused and which continued for far too long. Covid is still out there but in many instances its a case of “Covid – what covid?”
I’m not impressed on the performance of bbc radio news on getting detail out on what really matters as we move forward to an unstoppable oven of catastrophe, this will make any war look as a minor scale dummy run.
We hardly hear of the feedback effect of multiple systems all catastrophically amplifying each others effect and eventually the collapse of one another, like a house of cards, in essence negating or destroying each single systems ability to survive; lets throw a few probable eventualities around…
diatoms and plankton will die, are in fact dieing, therefore half of the world CO2 to O collapses. Who mentions this?
the ability of land based green growing things decreases CO2 conversion as CO2 itself increases, never mind methane.
aerosol masking multiplier.
ice gone, particularly the importance of vertical melt.
fact: jet stream now in two parts, dragging warm wet air over the Arctic.
fact: sunspot max for 2026 and transition from El Nana to El Nino coincides!
weather systems will waver and abandon the worlds conventional food production areas.
meat production (burgers?) needs to be drastically curtailed / minimised.
live near to your work.
does anyone consider pollution from commercial sources, diesel fuelled agriculture, construction and the military?
if we are for a fact losing/ have lost insect populations, hence we are losing small songbirds then what if we lose earthworms … that would be catastrophe.
if the oceans are warmer and of greater bulk what of tectonic plate shift?
existing wind and solar depends on established conventional weather patterns, not weather in flux.
we need a one child policy.
methane
methane
methane
etc
Nero himself would be aghast as how we are holding our nerve and blind to what is happening, fiddling with inconsequentials when the big things need to be addressed. The tree problem for instance, unless its evergreen ie the conifer then here in northern latitudes we have a thing called autumn leaf fall, likewise most green growing things, for half the year are near to dormant. The tree thing is difficult in the UK, already near all land is used as is most appropriate, theres not much slack.
Still thinking trees, we only have land surface to play with and most of that being unsuitable, yet six sevenths of the worlds surface is water, therefore in my opinion a solution must be water based / oceanic.
Heres an idea, rather than carbon offset which is in itself an often dubious mechanism we could have death offset, pay poor brown people to die instead of ourselves … mighty quicker than a one child policy! Whoops, gallows humour.
Timescale? I just read stuff (preferably by scientists) … year 2026 will I fear be a much different place than where we are now, see the above bullet point list, year 2030 may well have seen homo sapiens much compromised if not near extinct.
note in the above further down the page mention of ‘hole in sea ice in Laptev Sea 2010’,
The Laptev Sea will become famous for its shallowness and store of methane hydrate now set into melt mode. One could spend day upon day compiling this information, I only hope readers delve further than what at preseent at least at this address appears google presenting an obstacle at seeking out the latest scientific opinion, if it was fashion or burgers or stupid social networking it would be presenting me with a myriad of connections.
I abhor groups and crowds at the best of times buts let remember theres going to be one heck of a covid spike after scenes such as this slow moving jumble of people. How horrifying to be trapped in such a manner.
Covid virus is so small two hundred of the virus will fit side by side in one thousandth of an inch … this equates to four hundred virus side by side across the thickness of a human hair ie 0.002in. Lab workers, biochemists etc know fine well as how dastardly small virus can be and how difficult therefore to work with.
Masks may hinder breath projection which is all to the good but I doubt have much effect at scrubbing inward breath, distance is crucial, as is hand washing and minimising cross contamination, imagine its a powerful red dye that sticks to surfaces, keep off!
It is our daily 365 lives that signal our true carbon footprint, at the moment I’ve got my annualised electricity for my house at 86p a day, at the old tariff I wonder if I can get that to below 80p? Now I just need to work on the gas. We mustn’t lose sight that we still need to be productive in our work and business, unless of course our lives are propelled into a new and topsy turvy world of extinct businesses, shortages and limitations.
I fear for the poor, already in the UK Boris and rich kid Rishi are doing their best to knock the poor back, blind to the hardship they are creating with stopping a measley £20 note, this in practical reality anything BUT the handy feelgood ‘levelling up’ as promised. A lot of of what we hear from number ten is mere feelgood mantra, a slogan, a handy peg to hang an air thin promise upon, a soundbite and little else. Look at the decade and more of defunding of the NHS, ditto Education. Boris ‘acts the part’ but is no politician of any great ability, he does not respect Parliament quite obviously and from my observation has no perceptible knowledge or desire to take us to a better place.
I have no fear of the future, its as if we ourselves are a vast experiment viewed from some distant planet so to speak; our journey of exploration and discovery has spanned a hundred thousand years of stone tools to agriculture, to towns and cities, religion, electricity, the electron, things digital etc. I really don’t know if its at all possible to ‘get out of this jam’.
But also I can’t help but feel what a pity we invented the internal combustion engine! knowledge or desire
At least as a species we’ll not go down without an effort.
The more I think about all this the more I get bugged … Mans intransigence and utmost stupidity, trumps one trillion to the already super-wealthy, the craving for the latest bigger and bigger SUV, the multi home and multi car lifestyle. And sadly academics and scientists at least so far to this point having to keep shtum re the real situation, otherwise you get fired, side-lined, demoted, transferred to other duties; the USA particularly endemic of this so very non-scientific manner of managing things.
Lets drag a few other points, elaborate and often wasteful food consumption ….. just look at the problem of obesity. The need for a foreign holiday. The nonsense of countries saying “Look at our reduced carbon footprint” when in fact most our of goods are made in China, shipped across the world and the West has the audacity to accuse Chine of carbon footprint! Lets remember until recent times all through the C20 the near universal personal mode of transport in China was the bicycle.
Meat being dumped, does this figure in the news, the actual amount of meat taken back off supermarket shelves as out of date, I’ve witnessed this late in the evening as standard supermarket practice, is there data on this, is it fully recognised? I think I’ve had merely half a dozen traditional Sunday dinners in thirty years and now cooking my own food even regrettably being a meat eater I can pad out any casserole or stew with lots of veg, herbs and spices, particularly so far with tricks from India and Pakistan, hint … incorporate punchpooran, a five seed mix that to my mind eliminates the need for salt or meat to any great extent.
In my opinion a one child policy is essential.
1.5 degrees is now a nonsense, its obscene to think this is still a valid number, likewise 2050 ….
Anything style ‘2050’ is utter nonsense, we haven’t got the time, I doubt we’ll be here. Likewise I doubt if the vast majority of humans will be here by 2035. I wonder how diluted will be the reports planned for the first day at COP26, I’d like to think there will be a few suprises, maybe scientists will come forward and ‘grow a pair’ so to speak.
This morning I read of the tragic and gross scouring of the sea bed by deep trawling, surely this should have been stopped years ago?
Interestingly its only been this week I’ve encountered the term ‘vertical melt’ … this is exactly what I’ve been railing about all the time I’ve blogged here, ie three / four years. As all kids know, the extent of snow and ice can still appear as it has been first arrived but only at closer observation can we see that in fact its the thickness that much reduces every day until suddenly one morning we wake up and our sledging and fun in the snow has completely gone. That, is the nature of snow and ice.
Link below for a high quality overview of climate change….
You’ll not get many if any people that work in the countryside to agree with re-wilding. Its another one of those subjects turned into something emotive, something that its no longer so easy to get the activists to embrace the full story. I wonder if the web has aided tribalism? …. of course it has.
A myriad of life can exist in a multi-purpose landscape, goodness how difficult it would be to fight ones way through sheep walk turned to hawthorn scrub. Nor do I want to have my progress straight-jacketed into pre-cut walks and pathways. Nature and all its little participants is very clever, theres a habitat for just about everybody, barring of course the hopeful additions that we heard Chris mention yesterday, Lynx, goodness what else and oh yes he tells us bears and wolves! Oh dear, how silly. I always think it a bit corny when an army of kids are enrolled to march upon The Palace!
In a practical real-life situation it has been the fifty years of excessive drainage on upland areas that to my mind has caused great harm, eradicating the upland sponge that minimises flooding. Likewise for decades farmers were paid to eradicate old hedges. How silly and blind!
Another point that I’ve never heard anyone speak of is the universal municipal spraying at any feature of grassed pathways, ie signposts, lampposts, fencing, kerb edges, all of these are microhabitats for tiny things which in turn would be a source of food. I’m talking about the nooks and crannies that have been rendered useless, not neccessarilly a complete re-wilding as per recent experiments. Here of course I am assuming the insect count is down compared with unsprayed, I must be vigilant here, as a great byword of mine is ‘don’t assume’, which is probably the most basic and elementary understanding in any rational and scientific treatment of any subject or situation.
Good quality front gardens are in great decline, concrete slabs, block paving and gravel as standing for cars has eliminated I guess a full half of what might have been a convenient hop off point and source of food for garden birds. A decent garden much like the washing line is becoming a rare thing. Even rarer is the ability to allow leaf litter to remain, to be adding an extremely beneficial upper organic layer that returns soil to what it should be, it was never intended to be naked.
I wonder to what extent ‘nature’ is taught in schools, I know in my early 1970’s UK Secondary School it was poorly dealt with. I could do a far better job myself. If art, practical handicraft (ie wood and metalwork) have been near eradicated and music in great decline at state schools then what of nature study?
My usual hobbyhorse of diatoms is a no-fail way to get kids interested.
We had them yesterday through daytime overhead and in the evening real big ones extending a full forty five degrees over on the western horizon say above central and western part of northern England ie chemtrails in Cumbria. This at a guess makes the visible portion from my viewpoint sixty to eighty miles away and observed length same. My self-invented DQA Reporting System I rate as DQA 8-3-3; in other words 80% duration for most of the day, quantity 30% and affect ditto.
This morning for north Tyneside / Northumberland I wake up to again, obvious chemtrail. with the resultant haze by 08:45 I rate at DQA 10-3-4, firstly rated 10/10 because they were present all of the hours of daylight and note the latter figure, the ‘affect’ more problematic. A problem because I do not want or like my skies messed around with!
From the top of my head points to note with chemtrail …
chemtrails linger, broaden out and create a hazed, whitened or grey sky, and can affect the lower cloud forming layers.
chemtrails are composed of substances not good for public health, not good for bees, insects etc.
chemtrail build-up leads to an ‘altered sky’ in various forms, heavy grey dense ‘reaction clouds (my term) ‘ at its so far observed ‘worst’.
its v difficult / impossible to find high definition weather radar to reveal chemtrail, without doubt Meteorologists must have been required to sign The Official Secrets Act, otherwise they would be screaming about it.
its also v difficult to get NASA Worldview to capture a good proportion of chemtrail activity, my guess it only pick or reveals say 20-30%.
chemtrail leads to a build up of nano-particle aluminium that has probably lead to food chain collapse in once bountiful rivers, to autism, possibly dementia, and I’m sure the voracity of record levels of wildfires. Remember, fine particle aluminium can weld solid steel rails to form jointless welded railway line, ie thermite and its also an explosive for demolition; fine particle aluminium is nasty stuff …
Most folk will look out the window after breakfast to see ‘another hazy day’ and give the matter no further thought, because of course they didn’t see the horizon to horizon widening chemtrail streak across their sky earlier that morning at 0630, nor were able or bothered to view the distant horizon at sunset; they don’t connect, they don’t to any great extent ‘think’.
If only we could to assemble a number of observers across the UK, and utilise lorry drivers to take note each sunrise whats up there in the sky. My own viewpoint is merely to observe and document, admittedly only as far as my life and work permit me.
Lets have a quick tootle around on NASA Worldview for yesterday 16th Sept 2021 …
At point 3,3 above (ie 0-10 from top LH corner) note the shadow cast on the lower more normal cloud system.
Theres lots of chemtrail in the sky above, if we go back to 14th Sept 2021 heres the mediterranean looking very hazed over … https://go.nasa.gov/2VNx6do ie below.
Chemtrail Mediterranean, Sardinia, Balearics, chemtrail over Italia 14th Sept 2021 https://go.nasa.gov/2VNx6do
Lets zoom in to the chemtrail nonsense over to the western shore of Sardinia ie chemtrail Sardinia, Oristano, western Mediterranean, 14th Sept 2021 … https://go.nasa.gov/2YWU96G here below.
Theres more, but above is the most obvious and I hope nudges people to question what they see in the sky above. For instance for the day previous ie 13th Sept 2021 we find a mass of chemtrail over the English Channel, Rotterdam, Antwerp etc … https://go.nasa.gov/3nHjv2T
For 17th Sept a lot of chemtrail in English Channel, Channel Islands, Brittany, northern France …. https://go.nasa.gov/2Xugl7p
… having to accept against my will a ‘condensing boiler‘ most certainly against my wishes and remember its me that foots the bill (for in this case something i did not want) ie a replacement central heating boiler of the newer ‘condensing type’. This would be say eight years ago and cost me £1,700 GBP.
When the young man left after totting up I’m guessing £700 for ten hours labour (which is more than double any hourly rate I have ever charged never mind pocketed as a wage, in fact three times the amount on invoicable monies alone) …. I was left with gaping holes to fill and particularly with no immersion heater for instant hot water and the facility to air our clothing etc in the aptly named ‘airing cupboard on the upstairs bedroom level! Its particularly jarring to me we lost the immersion heater upstairs.
In winter it kept upstairs warm too, taking the edge off the cold. maybe indicating an inefficiency, but appreciated and of course now lost.
Point of this post and something that i only realised yesterday is that the super-duper pile of crap called the condensing boiler is in fact now seeming itself as out of date and backward when with the modern push to eliminating gas fired boilers now elevates the long uninstalled immersion heater I reckon as looking so much more attractive (its electric not the now shamed gas) and attractive to the ‘powers that be’ the authorities and the bright bunnies running around oh so desperate to install the latest. I wish them well in their Spanish villas and three car families and unfettered consumerism fuelled by decades of insisting on the installation of gas fired condensing boilers at very juicy hourly rates, certainly not a lifestyle of mine. In actual fact i hope they fall flat on their face and i look forward to once again having an immersion heater in the airing cupboard.
This is merely my own hypothesis of course, these lines in the sky carry labels neither up in the sky nor when we find them on NASA Worldview. The latter is no way conclusive, my guesstimate is its only a fifth of probably happens in reality; its merely that Worldview is a snapshot of a certain time of day, my guess is late morning towards noon local and … its all I’ve got!
Looking back a few days as part of my intermittent chemtrail diary theres certainly solid information we can set down here. Incidentally here in north east England yesterday 6th September mid evening at sunset we had a huge criss-cross chemtrail practically overhead and the initial northern chemtrail as it approached was quite horrific in its proportions, full blast and lots of it, perspective and viewpoint of course adding to the effect. No other human being apparently latches on to what is plainly visible and this judging from the near zero reaction my chemtrail blogging inspires.
Next day and day after yes Worldview captures chemtrail, for instance for 13th Sept chemtrail northern France … https://go.nasa.gov/3nBdV1Y
Choosing another filter for Sept 13th we obtain chemtrail for Ipswich, Margate, Antwerp, Rotterdam … https://go.nasa.gov/2YXWT3U
Chemtrail 12th Sept 2021, heres chemtrail over the English Channel, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight … https://go.nasa.gov/39eZnMV
Chemtrail over North Sea, eastern England, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, 12th Sept 2021 … https://go.nasa.gov/2XqhQE8
Going back to 11th Sept we find east coast England targeted for chemtrail, for instance chemtrail Lincolnshire and east coast England … https://go.nasa.gov/3hujnjp
Hint, change filter settings on the lh panel, can help with finding chemtrail.
As with yesterday its been a chemtrail day, not so much in the morning but certainly chemtrail is here and certainly more noticeable early and mid evening. I didn’t take photographs as its a common occurrence, for today my DQA reporting system as observed in the sky above from north east England is DQA 7-3-4
Early evening provided very obvious criss-cross chemtrail patterns. These are definitely not condensation trail.
NASA Worldview as usual only provides a slim chance of catching anything, however for today it has captured chemtrail activity over Scotland ie https://go.nasa.gov/2WB5skj
Chemtrail diary north east England. Third week August 2021.
Monday 23rd Aug ’21 yes lots of lines in the sky which i also call chemtrail. Obviously i have a life to lead but still able to view the sky a couple of dozen times a day. Started early and best examples ie most visible chemtrail activity was say early teatime here in the north east of England, the activity centred above Tyneside; this was very obvious chemtrail, generally trending E-W but some criss-crossed too. Using my DQA reporting system I rate as duration =9/10; quantity 3/10; affect 3/10 (an aluminized sky but no grey ‘reaction clouds’ as witnessed a couple of years ago, therefore DQA 9-3-3. Photo to follow, but strangely little to see on NASA Worldview whatever filter is applied. At the observed peak teatime chemtrail activity rated as DQA 9-6-4
Tuesday 24th Aug ’21 whoops, more chemtrail than yesterday, two thirds of the day to my eyes an obvious aluminized sky ie white fug, no reaction clouds. DQA 10-3-3. Again teatime is a better chance of seeing these lines in the sky, every ten minutes a huge long ‘across the sky’ high altitude chemtrail which haze and widen and add to the obscuration of what otherwise would be a blue sky. This is getting back to what I witnessed and recorded for two or three years already on this blog. Lets go look at NASA Worldview …
Wow …. NASA Worldview data still not available for UK, North Sea and all of Europe… I think I smell something fishy, its five hours late ie present time 7pm BST and normally available say 1:45 pm each day.
At least here we get a semblance however slight of the many chemtrail seen for Tuesday, ie north east England https://go.nasa.gov/3mzM3L4 … angle your screen to get the best idea of this.
I could do a whole post on chemtrail over northern Adriatic … https://go.nasa.gov/3mtDb9V … thats funny, I’m sure there was more on other days.
footnote 1 … found this a few minutes ago, worth reading, we need light shed on this chemtrail problem. So much online content is flat one-dimensional ‘debunking’ for what when we look up into a chemtrail ruined sky is real, and when repeated hour by hour and day by day surely to goodness even the dimmest person should be wondering what is going on. An hour later a ‘successful’ trail hangs there and hazes according to wind drift, this is not justifiable as being ‘nothing’. It is ‘something’ and therefore deserves time and effort to find out more. Where chemtrails are common aluminium levels increase greatly.
Another fun ingredient to add to the tally of global warming events and I’m assuming will rear its ugly head sooner or later, how else can it be, as explained below if the weight of ice disappears from Greenland than how else can the ground itself react but readjust its tectonic plate structure. Likewise subsea landslides are a real danger.
Not much seems forthcoming on this subject of tectonic plate readjustment / movement, maybe google is sometimes a hindrance than a boon? Or maybe articles pitched at the ‘layman’ aren’t so abundant? The achademic three year peer review system needs drastically to be shortened, we haven’t time.
Anyway, to read it and it is five minutes well spent. As always I hold self-education as vital, just like as in the olden days ….
A couple of days ago we hear on bbc radio news that experts announce that the German and European floods could well be a sign of climate change. Wow, that is a serious under-reaction to ever increasing problems.
A petty grumble of mine but what really pips my noodle is cars especially diesel SUVs idling over in supermarket car parks whilst ‘the other half’ gets the shopping in ….. GRRRR !
Second grumble of the day is how lagging the IPCC are in all this, as if not wanting to upset anyone, they are supposed to be predicting the future and to motivate a worldwide response by scientists, engineers, governments, individuals etc. When a bomb was involved it was the Manhattan project, we need that seriousness of response multiple times over as well as vastly reducing our own personal carbon footprints, maybe its fruitless in actual reality but we cannot go down without a fight.
Aljazeera writes achingly sad re the famine in Madagascar, as when I read of the mass starvation during the Chinese Great Leap Forward and then the Cultural Revolution of people reduced to trying to eat scraps of leather or trying to scavenge nuts or berries that they know fine well is slowly killing them then we know the situation is bad, is irreversible for them. I think I shall be making my Christmas charity donations in the next few days. Interestingly a few years ago I learnt that in the Moslem world a working adult will contribute 1/40 of their income as charity contribution each year, I think a lot of us should work by that example and perhaps the tragedy of Yemen, Madagascar, refugees etc may find some relief from their plight.
